CLAVIS ARCANA | Copper and Antique Key Wall Art

The Keys of the Twins — Castor & Pollux

Clavis Arcana brings together copper, two old keys and an original hand-painted language of light within a contemporary sculptural composition inspired by Castor and Pollux—the mythic Twins whose bond reaches across the boundary between mortality and immortality.

Entirely handcrafted in Bulgaria, the artwork unfolds across a copper surface measuring 80 × 40 cm. At its centre, two keys cross within a field of individually painted symbols, lines and markings, creating an object reminiscent of an ancient seal, celestial map or artefact of unknown purpose.

The two keys belong symbolically to Castor and Pollux—the Dioscuri of ancient Greek mythology. Castor was mortal, while Pollux carried divine immortality. When death separated them, Pollux refused an existence that excluded his brother, and the twins came to share their existence between different realms.

Within Clavis Arcana, their story becomes an exploration of duality: mortal and immortal, earthly and celestial, visible and invisible.

Two keys. Two paths. One bond.

Copper forms the physical body of the work. Used by human hands since antiquity, its warm and changing surface brings an elemental presence to the composition, interacting with gold, shadow and light.

Across the metal appears an original hand-painted language of light. These markings are not intended as a conventional alphabet or a message requiring literal translation. They belong to the visual language of the artwork, allowing meaning to remain open to personal interpretation.

The symbolic field continues onto the reverse. Once the artwork is installed, this second layer remains largely unseen—a hidden dimension that exists without needing to reveal itself.

The title carries the same idea. Clavis is Latin for “key”, while Arcana evokes the hidden and mysterious. Together, Clavis Arcana suggests a key not to a physical door, but to something beyond the immediately visible.

More than a wall artwork, Clavis Arcana exists as a contemporary symbolic artefact—part painting, part sculptural object and part imagined relic. Its geometry is visible from a distance, while its copper surface, markings and handcrafted details gradually reveal themselves at closer range.

Two brothers. Two keys.

And a bond that refuses to end where one world meets another.

Clavis Arcana is an entirely unique original. No molds, prints or reproductions are created.
