The Covenant

Covenant brings together ancient symbolism, natural obsidian, authentic Bulgarian coins and two crossing arrows within a contemporary sculptural composition built around the idea of an enduring bond—a promise given form.

Entirely handcrafted in Bulgaria on a solid wood panel, the artwork is structured around a circular symbolic field crossed by two arrows. Their intersection forms the central axis of the composition: two separate directions meeting at a single point. Around them, pieces of natural obsidian, authentic Bulgarian coins, metallic details and an original hand-painted language of light transform the surface into something reminiscent of an ancient seal, ceremonial map or object of unknown purpose.

The circle holds the composition together. Across cultures and time, it has carried associations with wholeness, continuity and that which has neither beginning nor end. Within Covenant, it becomes a boundary within which something is witnessed and sealed.

The two arrows introduce another movement. Traditionally associated with direction, intention and purpose, here they cross rather than travel independently. Their meeting point becomes the symbolic heart of the work—a place where two paths cease to exist entirely on their own.

A covenant is more than a promise.

It is a promise that has been given form.

Pieces of natural obsidian are positioned around the central field as dark visual anchors. Formed from rapidly cooled volcanic material, obsidian introduces a raw geological presence against the gold and silver-grey surface, creating a contrast between darkness, reflection and light.

Integrated within the composition are also authentic Bulgarian coins. Removed from their ordinary monetary function and embedded permanently into the artwork, they become traces of place, exchange, value and human history—small physical witnesses belonging to the country in which the work itself was created.

Around the inner circle, an original language of light appears through individually painted markings. These symbols are not intended as a conventional alphabet or a message requiring literal translation. They belong to the visual language of the artwork, allowing meaning to remain open to personal interpretation.

More than a wall artwork, Covenant exists as a contemporary symbolic artefact—part painting, part sculptural object and part imagined relic. Its geometry is visible from a distance, while its coins, obsidian, markings, textures and individual handcrafted details gradually reveal themselves at closer range.

Covenant does not reveal what was promised.

It preserves the moment in which the promise was made.

Every Covenant is entirely unique. No molds, prints or reproductions are ever created, making the work impossible to recreate exactly.

Craftsmanship

Each Covenant begins with a solid wood panel before every layer of pigment, texture and symbolic expression is built entirely by hand. The two arrows are individually positioned across the central composition, while pieces of natural obsidian and authentic Bulgarian coins are integrated one by one into the artwork.

The circular geometry, metallic details and original language of light are all created by hand, preserving subtle irregularities as part of the character of the work. The combination of natural stone, historical objects, sculptural elements and hand-painted symbolism ensures that the finished piece can never be duplicated exactly.
